Let’s start out our first blog entry with a little eatery in Troy called The Placid Baker on 250 Broadway. On this particular day, earlier in April, I was just getting finished off of a commercial job in the area and was looking for a quiet place to grab a cup
of coffee, and perhaps a small sandwich to satiate my hunger. Located near the intersection of Franklin Street and Broadway, this little bakery/restaurant sits in a bustling commercial area that I don’t normally frequent. However, I was in the area, and I’ve never been to this place before; I figured I could give it a try.

The bakery is beautiful, with it’s quiet, comforting atmosphere, and rustic aesthetic, it’s certainly a nice place to simply sit and relax with a cup of coffee and a good book. However, you will not JUST be  impressed with what you see, you will be impressed with what you smell. The moment you walk in, the smells of freshly baked breads and pastries just hits you in all the right ways. You can’t help but go to the glass encasement that houses the perfectly made cookies, cupcakes, and other such goodies to see what they have to offer. However, I was looking for lunch. Their menu was adequately sized with an array of soups and salads,(I didn’t take a picture at the time), but one menu item caught my eye, called “Tom’s Turkey”. This sandwich had it all: Organic turkey, Cabot cheddar, cranberry mayo, local Apple slices, and local greens on the lightest, most delicious Ciabatta I have tasted in a long time. The kind waitress served it to us in a matter of minutes, and it was time to dig in. The sandwich was perfectly portioned, and extremely filling. Biting down into that sandwich ended with a nice, satisfyingly light crunch from a combination of the Ciabatta, greens, and apple slices. The combination of that, with the amazing coffee was the perfect lunch time item that was filling, and not too hard on my wallet. The waitstaff was kind, courteous, and fast, and I was in and out of there in only 15-20 minutes time. I wish I could have stayed a little longer but we appraisers are busy people!

If you’re in central Troy and in need of some excellent pastries and a great lunch, or if you just want a cool place to relax with your friends over some coffee and pastries,  I implore you to try out The Placid Baker. We will definitely be coming back here again! Look below for their location and Facebook!
